Writing Advice

Over the weekend, me and my husband went to a Best Buy. While there I meet two ladies and we started talking about my book and writing, they were asking me about how to write etc....

I told them I don't have a lot of experience. But I found tons of help online and from writing magazines etc....

So this got me to thinking, why not give a list so that maybe it can help other writers. So here is a list of the places that I "went to" for help, I hope this helps with any and all writers out there, you will see a lot of Romance references because I write Romance.  Some are magazines that I have subscriptions to.

From Writers Digest magazine:

On Writer Digest web site you can buy books that help with writing as well, really great books. Here are just a few that I own:

From The Writer magazine:

From Harlequin Romance:

From Romantic Times Book club Magazine:

From Writing World:

I found this online from Wiki How(watch the video):

And this is were the video came from(YouTube):

I know there is more information out there, this is all I can think for now.
Another thing you might try is going to your favorite authors website, many of my favorite authors have help for writers on their web sites.

Hot Romance reads for Hot Summer days

I just finished Johanna Lindsey's "ONE HEART TO WIN"

One Heart to Win

And I loved it. It was Johanna Lindsey at her best.

Now I am reading Julie Garwood's "HOTSHOT"

Hotshot

And though I have not finished it, so far I am loving it and can't wait to finish it.

These two are some of my favorite authors.

What are the Romance reads you are reading to stay out of the heat?

Train concert

My wonderful husband bought me and some friends tickets to go see Train. This is the third time I have seen Train in concert and they always put on a great show.

In this picture you can see the lead singer, Patrick "Pat" Monahan.

In the second picture the band threw balls into the crowd and if you look closely you can see the balls flying around over the crowd. Look at how many people were there. There were tons of people there.

I took a short video, but forgot to unplug my ear piece when taking the video. So the sound is just this horrible noise, that sounds like something out of a horror movie.

But we had so much fun!!!!!

Thank you again honey!!!!!!

The Name Game

I know many of you think I am talking about the Royal baby born just yesterday. Congrats by the way to the Royal family!!! What a happy time for them.

But I am referring to author pen names. Rachel Rain is my pen name. Many of you that know me already know this of coarse and know where the name came from. The dilemma I am trying to work out is do I use this pen name for all my Romance writing or just for my spicier Romances? I love the name and it has a special meaning to me.
But I would love to get feed back on what readers think. Would you expect all my Romances to follow along the same genre or would it matter as long as they are "labeled" so you know what they are?
I know that some Romance authors use different pen names for the different Romance genres they write in and some write under the same name for all there different genres. So I was wondering if I should come up with a different pen name. All of my stories are Romance but some are Romantic suspense, some are Paranormal Romance, some Contemporary Romance, etc....

Or should I just keep writing everything under Rachel Rain?

My next story that I am working on is a Romantic Suspense I am over 32,000 words into it so I am trying to figure out what name I should put it under. I am pushing to finish it by October.

Cool things from Houston

Today I had jury duty, I was not picked to serve on the jury but on my way home I saw just a few things that I think make Houston a cool place. So I took a few pictures to show you guys.

First Houston has some really great buildings, some date back to the eighteen hundreds. I don't know if the buildings I took a picture of do but they are really cool to look at. I love old buildings, they have so much character.

This picture is The Houston Cotton Exchange building, when I took the picture today I did not know what it was. I had turned myself around in downtown(which has happened more than once) and was trying to figure out how to leave downtown when I pulled up to this building and I loved the look of it, so I took a picture. Then I did some looking online for historical buildings in downtown Houston and this picture came up.

Needles to say I was shocked when I saw it was the same building I had taken a picture of today.
Here is a little information on it(I got this from Wikipedia):

The 1884 Houston Cotton Exchange Building is a building located in HoustonTexas that was built in 1884. It was designed by Eugene T. Heiner. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Here is another building, look at top of it, I did not get up close to it but I would guess it looks even more impressive up close:

And last but not least check out these guys that just hang out beside the road, well a freeway is a road of sorts; this is off of I-10:

Thanks for letting me show you a very small piece of Houston.

What are some great things about where you live?
