Merry Christmas 2013

I am sorry its been a while since I posted. We have had a lot of medical things going on with Jasmine. She is doing better, but still has a ways to go. She is getting better around people, all the trips to the vet have helped with that. The staff at the vet has been helping us work with her, to get her over being so scared. We are very happy with that.

I wanted to send out greetings to y'all, with some beautiful Christmas pictures I found online:

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would post some of my Christmas morning pictures, but they usually involve PJ's and hair sticking out in fifty different directions. Not a pretty sight.

I hope you and all your friends and family have a happy, safe, wonderful, Christmas and an exciting New Year.

Bringing Jasmine home

As summer ends and fall begins so does a new chapter in our lives, Hi guys. I know I have not been posting lately and I am sorry but life has been a bit busy. One thing that has kept us busy has been our new dog, Jasmine. She was a rescue dog, she had been living on the streets here in Houston at a Home Depot. My husband had seen her a while back and had been feeding her but she had always ran from him, so he had not been able to catch her. He contacted a rescue organization here that helped us catch her, so we could bring her home. She has been here for a few weeks and is doing well but still needs to put on more weight. She has started showing signs of being a puppy wanting to play etc... We are so happy to see that, when she first came to us she would jump and start to hide in our back yard if we walked out the backdoor. Now she comes up to us wanting attention, nudging us with her head, licking our hands etc... She is still scared of being just in front of our house, she does well in our back yard though. It will take time before we can even take her for walks. Right now our focus is on getting her to feel that this is home now, and she is safe.
I will keep you guys updated on how Jasmine is doing.

September 11, 2001

I still remember what I was doing the morning that the USA as we knew was changed. It makes me wonder now was that how everyone felt when Pearl Harbor was attacked? The uncertainty of what will come next? Just the day before we were all certain of our self's of the world around us. Then in a heart beat everything changed forever.

Walking out of my kitchen plate in one hand piled with eggs and toast; glass of juice in my other hand, I made my way to our living room to watch TV while eating breakfast. My husband was at work, our son at school.  Turning on Good Morning America as I sat down in my chair I watched as the news broke that an airplane had hit one of the Twin Towers. I can't say I remember who called who first but I was on the phone with my mom not a minute later. At first we like everyone else in the country thought it had been an accident. Then we watched as the second tower was hit, we did not speak as we listened to everything going on somehow knowing our world was changing right before our eyes and would not be the same. I remember the first tower falling to the ground in a pile of metal, dust and debris.  Thinking the whole time "Oh my God there are people in that building". Then the second tower fell, and I thought "who would do this horrible thing". I forgot that I was holding the phone with my mother on the other end until she spoke just three words "Oh my God". I knew how she felt I just did not know what to say. We each sat in our living rooms watching holding our phones not speaking for some time trying to come to grips with what we were seeing. When the Pentagon was hit, all I could think was I have to go get our son from school. I called my husband right as he was calling me we both had the same thought, I made sure he was ok,  he was making sure I was alright; then I left to go get our son. To this day I don't remember if I ate my breakfast, all I remember are the lives we lost on that day, lives of people I never knew. They were moms, daughters, fathers, sons, aunts, uncles, grandsons, granddaughters, grandfathers, grandmothers, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters. And though I never knew them they will always be a part of me, always be in my heart and their families will always be in my prayers.

So today I ask that all of us take a minute to hug our family and friends and remember the day our great county lost so many of our family and friends.  And when you see a person in the military, a fireman, or a policeman take a minute to say thank you, for they watch our backs on the home front and abroad.

I know what it is like to wonder if your husband will come back home to you, if this time the fire will win; for my husband was a firefighter for fourteen years. It is not easy to let them walk out the door knowing it may be the last time you see their smile, the last time you feel their arms around you, the last time you touch their face as they kiss you. But you know that they are helping people and that helps you get through.

Writing Advice

Over the weekend, me and my husband went to a Best Buy. While there I meet two ladies and we started talking about my book and writing, they were asking me about how to write etc....

I told them I don't have a lot of experience. But I found tons of help online and from writing magazines etc....

So this got me to thinking, why not give a list so that maybe it can help other writers. So here is a list of the places that I "went to" for help, I hope this helps with any and all writers out there, you will see a lot of Romance references because I write Romance.  Some are magazines that I have subscriptions to.

From Writers Digest magazine:

On Writer Digest web site you can buy books that help with writing as well, really great books. Here are just a few that I own:

From The Writer magazine:

From Harlequin Romance:

From Romantic Times Book club Magazine:

From Writing World:

I found this online from Wiki How(watch the video):

And this is were the video came from(YouTube):

I know there is more information out there, this is all I can think for now.
Another thing you might try is going to your favorite authors website, many of my favorite authors have help for writers on their web sites.

Train concert

My wonderful husband bought me and some friends tickets to go see Train. This is the third time I have seen Train in concert and they always put on a great show.

In this picture you can see the lead singer, Patrick "Pat" Monahan.

In the second picture the band threw balls into the crowd and if you look closely you can see the balls flying around over the crowd. Look at how many people were there. There were tons of people there.

I took a short video, but forgot to unplug my ear piece when taking the video. So the sound is just this horrible noise, that sounds like something out of a horror movie.

But we had so much fun!!!!!

Thank you again honey!!!!!!

The Name Game

I know many of you think I am talking about the Royal baby born just yesterday. Congrats by the way to the Royal family!!! What a happy time for them.

But I am referring to author pen names. Rachel Rain is my pen name. Many of you that know me already know this of coarse and know where the name came from. The dilemma I am trying to work out is do I use this pen name for all my Romance writing or just for my spicier Romances? I love the name and it has a special meaning to me.
But I would love to get feed back on what readers think. Would you expect all my Romances to follow along the same genre or would it matter as long as they are "labeled" so you know what they are?
I know that some Romance authors use different pen names for the different Romance genres they write in and some write under the same name for all there different genres. So I was wondering if I should come up with a different pen name. All of my stories are Romance but some are Romantic suspense, some are Paranormal Romance, some Contemporary Romance, etc....

Or should I just keep writing everything under Rachel Rain?

My next story that I am working on is a Romantic Suspense I am over 32,000 words into it so I am trying to figure out what name I should put it under. I am pushing to finish it by October.

Cool things from Houston

Today I had jury duty, I was not picked to serve on the jury but on my way home I saw just a few things that I think make Houston a cool place. So I took a few pictures to show you guys.

First Houston has some really great buildings, some date back to the eighteen hundreds. I don't know if the buildings I took a picture of do but they are really cool to look at. I love old buildings, they have so much character.

This picture is The Houston Cotton Exchange building, when I took the picture today I did not know what it was. I had turned myself around in downtown(which has happened more than once) and was trying to figure out how to leave downtown when I pulled up to this building and I loved the look of it, so I took a picture. Then I did some looking online for historical buildings in downtown Houston and this picture came up.

Needles to say I was shocked when I saw it was the same building I had taken a picture of today.
Here is a little information on it(I got this from Wikipedia):

The 1884 Houston Cotton Exchange Building is a building located in HoustonTexas that was built in 1884. It was designed by Eugene T. Heiner. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Here is another building, look at top of it, I did not get up close to it but I would guess it looks even more impressive up close:

And last but not least check out these guys that just hang out beside the road, well a freeway is a road of sorts; this is off of I-10:

Thanks for letting me show you a very small piece of Houston.

What are some great things about where you live?

Over the hump

Well, we are just past the halfway mark or over the hump.

I hope the year has been good to ya'll so far.

July is here, and I am not sure where the first six months went.

So many things have happened so far this year, good things, bad things, and things that started out bad and ended up good. It has been a roller coaster so far.

On a personal level and for us as a nation.

Here's to hoping the rest of the year brings more good than bad.

To my neighbors in Oklahoma

To all those affected in Oklahoma,

my heart and prayers go out to you.

Lunch with friends

While on the other side of town today, I stopped at a Walmart to see if they had some items that mine did not have. While there I went to say hi to my friend, to my surprise her daughter was there as well. We all went to the McDonald's there in the store and had a great lunch, I had so much fun catching up with them. It was not planned, just great friends spending time together.
So many people think you have to go somewhere "special" to have a great lunch, in reality its who you go with, not where you go.

Here's to having lunch with your friends no matter where you eat,

Our Princess

Sorry I have not posted in a while. Our princess aka our diva dog, got very sick and passed away. It took us by surprise and hit us very hard. She was only about four years old, we don't know her exact age because she just showed up one day about four years ago still a puppy, we think someone dumped her. It is getting a little easier as the days go by, but when we see her toys or her bedding or the last bone that she never finished, well its not so easy. You know they always say that you don't know how much you will miss someone until they are gone, that statement is so true. When I was growing up we always had a dog or cat, usually a dog. But I don't remember any of them being such a part of our family as our princess was. Our whole lives centered around princess. She was like a little kid, when we would come home from a store she would have to stick her head in the bags to see what was in them and she always knew when there was something in them for her. When my husband came home with some fudge for me a while back, she sat at my feet in the kitchen waiting for her "toy", then my husband pulled out her toy she lost all interest in my fudge.
Here is Summer, we always called her princess because she always acted like she was a princess as you can tell in these pictures. She would always walk into a room like 'here I am now pay me attention'. All she had missing was her crown.
